Invisalign Wauwatosa, WI
Many people dream of having straight teeth and a beautiful ‘Hollywood’ smile, but couldn’t imagine enduring wearing all the brackets and wires necessary to move their teeth to get that smile. Thanks to Invisalign the memories of wires and brackets can be a thing of the past!
With Invisalign, the traditional concept of straightening teeth has changed so much it’s hard for people to believe! Most people don’t realize that even though teeth are anchored in bone, they can be moved fairly easily. Invisalign has taken the concepts of traditional braces, which involves using wires and brackets to move teeth, and developed a high tech application of those principles. The result is we can straighten your teeth – at any age – using clear, removable aligners!
The aligners are custom made plastic ‘trays’ that fit over your teeth, similar to a night guard. These aligners are removable and are taken out when you eat and when you brush your teeth. Because these trays are removable you can eat anything you normally would – including taffy, corn on the cob and nuts! With traditional braces patients are advised to avoid hard, crunchy or chewy food because those foods can damage and break wires or brackets. Since the Invisalign aligners are removed, this isn’t a concern at all!
The biggest feature of Invisalign is that the aligners are clear. Even when you are wearing them, they can’t typically be seen. This means the self-conscious smile with wires on your teeth that were seen with traditional braces is a thing of the past and isn’t a concern at all!
When starting with Invisalign, the first thing we do is take molds and pictures of your teeth. This information is sent to the Invisalign offices for evaluation and treatment planning. The company generates an animated video to show what your teeth look like initially, how your teeth will move with each individual aligner and what the final result will be. The number of aligner trays is determined by your individual case, and each one is worn for about two weeks.
Correcting Your Bite
Because Invisalign is a very customized process we can treat everything from less involved cases like mild crowding of front teeth, all the way up to more complex cases – for example a cross bite. The length of treatment is determined by how involved your case is. In fact, a number of the people we work with have worn braces in the past and are interested in minor cosmetic touch ups which are easily completed with Invisalign.
Another consideration that people sometimes aren’t aware of is how teeth function. Research has shown that if teeth don’t bite together correctly the constant wear and tear on crooked teeth can cause teeth to chip and crack, potentially causing serious damage to the teeth and the bone. Having straight teeth provides the best opportunity for teeth to function properly plus get you the smile you’ve always dreamed of.
